Janice Clark
Round Hill, VA
The pairing of the aesthetic in Chinese Brush Painting with western art is reflected in Janice’s watercolor work. As with her mentors, Janice’s paintings are inspired by nature, and she often includes a bird or oversized insect to add a bit of life and humor. Trained in traditional methods, Janice typically grinds her own ink, mixes her own colors, and uses natural fur and hair brushes. Her paintings are on “rice” paper, made of mulberry and other natural fibers. Since discovering the vibrant hues of French pastels, Janice has found new joy in capturing rural Virginia landscapes and seaside views from her beloved Eastern Shore. Teasing out painterly effects with the pure pigments and tactile approaches of soft pastels has become her new artistic obsession.
