Raku Lidded Jar
Laura Fulton is the ceramic artist behind Silo Ceramics, based in Middleburg, Virginia. She creates functional pottery and ceramic art inspired by the balance between intention and unpredictability. Her journey with clay began in 2018 after receiving a handmade ceramic gift from a friend, whose perfectly imperfect character sparked a passion for the handmade. Her work explores the juxtaposition of clean, simple forms with the organic, uncontrollable effects of firing techniques such as raku. Conservation is a guiding principle of her practice as she seeks to create more with less by revealing the natural beauty of materials, particularly porcelain, often without glazes. Mindful that ceramic objects can outlive generations, she continually edits her work, recycling pieces that do not belong before they become permanent objects in the world. Laura believes art belongs in everyday life because the things we use and surround ourselves with should bring us joy.
