Kathleen Howsare

Lovettsville, VA

Kathleen Howsare is a Loudoun County artist who has been painting since the age of 8. She grew up in McLean, VA, and earned a BA in Studio Art and an art teaching degree from Mary Washington College. She taught elementary and middle school art in Virginia and West Virginia for over 30 years. In addition, she holds an MFA in painting from American University. Using acrylics, Kathleen's paintings are vibrant and light-filled. Showing locally, she has had work displayed and juried into numerous venues, including; The Waterford Fine Arts Show, Franklin Park Arts Center, The Barns of Rose Hill, Art at the Mill, and The Delaplaine in Frederick in MD.


In 2015, 2017, and 2018, Kathleen earned awards in acrylics at the Waterford Fine Arts Show and 1st place in 2019 and 2021. Kathleen was also awarded Best in Show in 2022. Throughout her career, she has the following awards; Judges Choice Award at the Loudoun Arts Council Show "30 Years of Vision", Best in Show Loudoun Sketch Club's 75th Anniversary Show, 2nd place in Artists in Middleburg Gallery Show, The Light of Day in September 2022, 1st place in the category, The Most Watery Feeling at Franklin Park Art Center Show Water and Color in September 2022. In addition, she was accepted into The Cumberland Valley Artist's Competition 2023.
